Who Do You Want Training You and Your Horse!!

1. The Trainers Team: You send your horse to a prestige trainer and write a large check each month.  You assume that the prestige trainer is working with your horse.  When you come to visit your horse and check on the progress, you find that the someone else is doing the training. You expected that the large check was for a top trainer, but you are only paying for  just the trainers name. Are you truly happy? Gregg Miron trains your horse with you. Together with your horse, you will learn and understand the training process..

2. Tune in to the Trainer: Communication between trainer and your horse is very important. In most cases, when you get your horse back form a training barn you have no understanding of how to ride your horse.  Gregg provides you work as a team. You learn all the steps needed to make you trust your mount.  Gregg insures that you completely understand how to ride your horse and communicate properly.

3.Trust Your Trainer: You need to know everything about your horse including feed, veterinary history, and even your horses favorite spot to be scratched. If you send your horse to a training barn are you making a bond with your horse or are the people at the training barn making the bond with your horse? Since Gregg comes to you at your home or barn, you still keep the bond and it continues to grow as you work together.

4.Budget Realistically: Understand that there their are different prices that you will be quoted to train your horse.  From as low as $500.00  to as much as  $2,000.00 per month.  Set goals for yourself and your horse and remember that you have to have a budget for tack. Each person has different tastes, but your trainer must make sure you are buying the right equipment. Each and every horse owner learns at a different rate.  It is hard to put a price on training, but it is easy to get sucked into the phrase "your horse is not coming along as fast as I liked"  This is the watch out line to your trainer is putting in the time required for your horse. With Gregg, you are training together and know what is being accomplished.  Ask a lot of questions. In most cases if you are new to horses, you might not know what to ask.  Gregg explains every step as he is working with you and your horse. Gregg also believes in buying tack that is strong and sturdy and he teach you proper care for equipment care.

5. Check Your Ego: Some trainers can give you quite an ear full of critical evaluations of your abilities, and of your horses equipment. That is if you go and purchase your tack that fits poorly and is not comfortable. Most importantly you don't take the critical evaluation too hard. Your trainer is trying to do what is best for you and your horse.  Make sure that you fully understand the recommendations before going out to buy tack. Gregg likes to take his clients and sometimes his clients horses shopping for tack.  At times it is worth while in order to save time and money.

6.Recognize Bad Habits: As time goes, some people develop bad habits.  Your trainer keeps harping on you and you inability to do things right and sometimes you feel as if you can't do anything at all.  Put your pride aside and listen to you instructor.  Gregg likes to keep things on a good note and at the end of every lesson, allows for time to ask questions.  Sometimes it takes going over some of the same lessons to correct the bad habits.  Gregg knows it is easy to make bad habits, and it takes twice as long to fix them.

I like to thank Western Horseman Magazine October 2006 for this article. I added some of my own summery.

Letter from one of my very special clients:
"Someone even commented about Robbie... saying she seems so willing. I remember what you said in the beginning of their training. You wanted to ask them to do things (not force them) and in doing so, we made them think doing everything was their idea. GREGG -- YOU CREATED THAT WILLING ATTITUDE!!!

Attached are some show photo's... What a beautiful horse Robbie is turning out to be!! Thank you again for being the sole reason we have two beautiful girls who were started right!!! YOU ARE AWESOME!!"

About Gregg Miron's Throwing Stones Farm Inc.

Gregg Miron owner of  Throwing Stones Farm Inc. since 1996 on a “by reference only” basis, assisting folks with problem horses and horse transportation.  I studied and practiced the various techniques used by prominent horsemen like Pat Parelli, John Lyons, Carole Fletcher, Chris Irwin and many other talented    trainers. I also spend time in Arizona and California during the cold New York winters. I visited the White Stallion Ranch in Tucson, AZ developing new and exciting methods to better my training skills for the up coming years.  In 2001 I took my program to the next level when I developed my own technique, "Redefining Horsemanship"®,  training full-time.  I lends a calm consistent approach when working with horses and horse owners alike and I'm known for my abilities to successfully "load up" unwilling horses,  to start new young horses, and for my ground manners training program. I also worked with the Dutchess County 4 H program helping young horse owners improve their skills.

Equine Clinician At Your Facility Or On Trails:  Gregg works hands-on with riders for ground manners, trailer loading, riding lessons and group rides/wrangler, trail riding and safety.  Also, Gregg will discuss working with you on any topic you select.
